Our Story
The Nehemiah Project Community Development Corporation was founded on a simple yet powerful belief—everyone deserves a safe, stable place to call home and the opportunity to thrive. Our journey began over two decades ago when our founders, Doug and Ingrid Thompson witnessed the struggles of families who faced unsafe living conditions, financial hardships, and limited access to essential resources.
Inspired by the biblical Nehemiah, who rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem to restore his community, we set out to do the same—one home, one family, and one neighborhood at a time. What started as a small initiative to provide minor home repairs for seniors, training and job opportunities for low income community residents, quickly grew into a broader mission: improving the quality of life in the areas of housing, economic development, health, and education/advocacy.
Through strategic partnerships, grants, and community-driven initiatives, we have managed millions in funding to ensure that resources reach those who need them most. Today, Nehemiah Project continues to restore hope by strengthening homes, empowering families, and revitalizing communities.
