Repairing a $12,000 water heater leak to restore clean water: A story of hope and sustainability

At Nehemiah Project CDC, we take pride in supporting young homeowners like JaQorya, a single mother determined to create a safe and sustainable home for her family. Her journey is a testament to resilience and the power of community.

When JaQorya’s hot water heater began leaking and her water turned discolored, she faced an overwhelming challenge. Boiling water daily for her family, she sought solutions but was quoted $12,000 for repairs—an impossible expense for a young mother. Even though she worried about qualifying for assistance, JaQorya remained hopeful and determined to find a way.

Thankfully, she was referred to Nehemiah Project Community Development Corp through the Care and Conserve Plumbing Repair Program of the City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management, we were able to provide a new hot water heater and two bathroom faucets. These essential upgrades not only restored her home but also promoted water conservation and affordability.

“This is the biggest blessing I’ve received,” JaQorya said with gratitude. Her story is a powerful reminder of the difference we can make when we come together to support young families in need. At Nehemiah Project, we are committed to empowering homeowners like JaQorya and fostering sustainable solutions that transform lives and communities..
